The title of this blog post is from the dedication Fredrik Backman wrote before he even knew if he’d finish the book.

At the time, he was exhausted, on the edge of quitting, unsure whether he’d write again. But something shifted when he visited a bookstore in Stockholm, packed with teenagers who were genuinely excited to be there. Enthusiastic. Joyful. Lit up by stories.

It reminded him of why he began.

And so, before writing another sentence, he scrawled a message to the next generation of makers:

To anyone young who wants to create something: do it

Simple. Defiant. Beautiful.

You don’t have to be “young” in the literal sense to let that hit you in the chest. Creative beginnings aren’t limited to age. They’re about energy. Curiosity. Hunger. The thrill of trying something before you know if you’re good at it—or even if it will work.

And that’s the invitation I want to extend to you today:

If you want to create something—do it.

  • Even if it’s messy.

  • Even if it doesn’t match the vision in your head.

  • Even if it takes longer than you thought or shifts into something entirely different.

  • Even if nobody claps.

  • Even if you’re not sure who it's for.

  • Even if you think it's too late.

You don’t have to turn it into a job or a brand or a masterpiece. You just have to start.

Because when you do, something inside you remembers what it feels like to be alive.

And if you’re holding back because you’re burned out, stuck in perfectionism, or feeling like it’s too loud out there to add your voice—I see you. You’re not wrong to feel overwhelmed. You’re not weak for needing support.

But your voice still matters.

And maybe the most radical, nourishing thing you could do right now is to let yourself begin again.

So, to anyone who wants to create something—especially if you’re a little tender, a little tired, and a little unsure—this is your sign.

Do it.
